I’ve always loved homemade valentines. When my kids were all a lot younger, we made handmade valentine cards every year, from toddler age on. {You can see a lot of those ideas by clicking on the Valentine’s Day category in the navigation bar.} As the kids got older, they gave up on valentines {or wanted storebought cards} but I still love coming up with fun ideas for the holiday. This great pair shoelace valentine is a cute candy free valentine idea and a great way to give a little gift that’s practical as well.
These shoelace valentines are made on a Cricut machine but if you don’t have a cutting machine, you could make something similar by freehanding the shoe {or finding a template online}, punching the holes with a hole punch, and adding the text by hand.
Supplies for Great Pair Shoelace Valentine
To make each shoelace valentine with a Cricut, you’ll need white cardstock, red cardstock, and white glitter cardstock. Obviously, you can use any color combination you want, but using a light color for the actual shoe will make the text show best. Light shades of pink, yellow, or blue would all be cute, too.
You’ll also need a black 1.0 Cricut pen {or another color of your choice}, a green standard grip cutting mat, and a pair of shoelaces. Glittery, colorful, or patterned shoelaces make the valentines extra cute.
How to Make a Great Pair Shoelace Valentine
I created the full design in Cricut Design Space so all you have to do is click over to the valentine design and send it to your Cricut machine.
Since the only accessories needed are the fine point blade and a pen, you can make this project on a Cricut Explore Air 2 or a Cricut Maker.
Using cardstock, cut one shoe for each valentine that you need.
To assemble the valentine, hold both shoelaces together and feed them carefully through the holes, being careful not to tear the cardstock.
Use a glue stick to attach the star to the center of the circle, then glue it onto the shoe.
Tie a big bow in the shoelaces, allowing the ends to hang down.
Depending on the length of the shoelaces, you may have a fair amount of excess lace, even after tying a rather large bow.
Kids can hand write a message or name on the back of the shoe {or the front, if they prefer} …
… and these cute little valentines are ready to be delivered on Valentine’s Day!
That is soooooooo adorable Randi. What a unique idea and I’m all for making Valentine’s cards instead of buying them. It’s so much more personal and from the heart, which is what the day of love is all about
