We recently cleared out our back gardens {they had been overtaken with oak shoots} and since we’re cleaning up and reorganizing the yard, I decided it was time to make a DIY hose holder. You can only look at the hose lying in the garden for so long, right {wink}? This is my kind of project: simple, quick, and it has a big impact on the home.
I bought a deck post with a decorative top and spray painted the post bright red {I love lots of color around our house}. The deck post was made of weatherproof wood so you could leave it plain or stain it a neutral color. You could also buy a plain deck post and add your own finial if you don’t like the style. I opted for totally simple {and relatively cheap} and went with the pre-carved post.
I didn’t bother painting the bottom of the post because it’ll be underground.
On the front of the post, I drilled small pilot holes then attached a wrought iron hose holder {affiliate link}. You could also use a cheaper hose holder but I love the look of this one and the black looks great against the red paint.
All that’s left is implanting the DIY hose holder into the ground. My little guy dug the hole, about two feet deep, for me and I placed a bit of Quikrete in the bottom. I know kids will be grabbing and pulling at the hose and I don’t want the hose holder pulling out or standing askew.
I wrapped our hose around it …
… and now we just have to add some more rock cover to the garden and wait for my mint to grow back. In the meantime, the yard is looking a little less cluttered and a little more organized … which makes me a happy homeowner!
What a pretty hose holder! I could use several of these. Easy, a lot less expensive than store bought and prettier!
Hello, could you tell me where you purchased the fence post? If not, Could you provide the name of the style in the material of the fence post, please? Thank you, Claire
Sure! I bought it at Lowe’s. You should be able to find one at any hardware store, in with the fence supplies.
