Chalkboard Advent Calendar

We love advent calendars with chocolates to eat every day and Christmas countdowns with sweet treats but I also love doing Bible readings with my kids through the month of December, leading up to Christmas.  This chalkboard advent calendar is such an easy way to create a countdown!  It takes just minutes to put together but looks super cute on display.  I’ll share a link to the reading plan we use below but you can customize this any way you want: find your own Bible readings, use an inspirational quote each day, or use this idea to create your own 24 days of service calendar.

I drew a very simple chalk Christmas tree on our kitchen chalkboard then cut twenty-four different circles {to look like ornaments} out of coordinating scrapbook paper.  I cut them in varying sizes to add more visual interest.  A craft punch or cutting machine {affiliate link} makes this step really easy!

I wrote a different Bible reading reference on the back of each circle using The Jesus Storybook Bible advent reading guide that we love and then added number stickers, 1-24, to the front of each circle.  This is a great way to use up those paper scraps and unmatched stickers that we all have!

If you want a more coherent look, simply use all the same paper and all the same stickers.

Each day the kids find the corresponding countdown number, pull it off, and we read together.

This Christmas countdown is so simple but super cute and rustic looking … and it looks cute even when the numbers have been peeled off.

That chalkboard is super cute! I am a little sad I never thought to do advent calendars with my daughter – maybe with the future grandkids.
