Earlier this week, I shared the MirrorMate transformation in my younger kids’ bathroom and today I’m sharing the entire bathroom makeover! This bathroom went from being plain and drab to looking like a finished, fun space for the kids and I love the transformation!
The bathroom looked like this before I started. Totally white with a batik shower curtain and a couple of bright towels but nothing that made it feel like a room.
The previous owners had painted white paint over stripes and the stripes caused the paint to crack. The whole room just looked flat and dull.
I created an inspiration board for the bathroom makeover and used it as a springboard for the changes. I started by painting the whole bathroom with Sherwin-Williams Indigo Batik, a color I first saw in a Pottery Barn catalog. I primed first to ensure I wouldn’t have any issues with the cracking paint, then covered the walls with this gorgeous, deep indigo. I absolutely love it. It’s dark but still so fresh looking and it looks great when viewed from the yellow hallway or the girls’ pink bedroom and bathroom area.
I left the vinyl bathroom markers on the door because the vinyl is still in great shape and I love the whimsical look of it from the hallway.
I framed out the builder’s grade mirror with a white MirrorMate frame, one of my favorite changes in the whole room. The wide frame just added such a polished, customized look to the bathroom.
I removed the batik shower curtain and hung a red curtain with grommets. I had considered adding some white detail to the curtain but for now I just left it, worried that my dirty little kids would just muck it up too fast.
Above the hand towel, I hung a cute little handmade sign that I picked up during one of my Canton trips.
I removed the towel bar and gave each of the three younger kids their own hook. Hooks make it so much easier for kids to rehang towels. The dark blue towels are from Walmart.
The numbered hooks are from the clearance aisle at Hobby Lobby. I think I paid $2 for each of them and sprayed them with glossy red paint. Rather than hanging them with the picture hooks on the back, I removed those and screwed them right into anchors in the wall. I didn’t want the kids being able to pull them off.
And perhaps my favorite thing in the bathroom is this fun repurposed cabinet. I scored this fire extinguisher cabinet for $5 at ReStore and loved the utilitarian look. I knew it would be a fun fixture in this bathroom. It weighs 34 pounds so I used toggle bolts to secure it to the wall …
… and I’m using it to store extra toilet paper. Cute, huh? I just love it!
Those are the big changes.
So what didn’t I change? The light fixtures stayed the same {they’re fine and really never need to be replaced}, the DIY faux granite countertops and vanity stayed {I’d ultimately like to replace the aging vanity but it’s not a priority}, and the linoleum floors stayed {I would LOVE to replace those with tile at some point and may have to tackle that DIY job}.
I love this bathroom makeover and I’m so glad to have it crossed off the project list!

Great job! I absolutely love what you’ve done here with the color scheme and the little details, such as the fire extinguisher cabinet and the “boys and girls” bathroom sign!
