Yesterday I hosted my third annual soup swap! It’s an event I look forward to every year and the perfect way to host and entertain friends during the chilly winter months. Friends come over, we have lunch together, and we swap soup. It’s so simple and so fun for everyone that attends! If you’d love to do something similar but aren’t sure where to begin, let me tell you how to host a soup swap!
Invite all your friends and instruct everyone to make their favorite soup recipe, package it in individual freezer-safe containers {mason jars work well if guests need suggestions} with one or two servings in each {the number of containers needed will depend on the number of people invited to the party}, label the containers with the recipe title, and print out copies of the recipe, if desired. Then all they have to do is show up!
On the day of the soup swap, I like to serve a soup lunch before everyone gets to swapping.
Set out a stack of bowls …
… some spoons …
… a stack of napkins …
… and serve a big pot of your favorite soup.
Add some croissants or a few loaves of french bread on the side and lunch is served. It’s such a simple way to host friends. Soup is a lunchtime favorite for entertaining even when I’m not hosting a soup swap.
Let guests enjoy lunch and then everyone can load up their baskets or bags with containers of soup.
Set the soup containers out on a table or counter and each guest can walk down the table length and grab one of each container along with a recipe, if they want. {Get the recipe for the roasted cauliflower soup that I swapped by clicking on the link.}
We’ll all be eating warm soup for lunch over the next couple of weeks and trying a variety of different recipes … and all you have to do is reheat the freezer container!
