Sensory Play :: Colored Ice Cubes

I was going through my idea files and came across a fun summer sensory play idea for Tate: colored ice cubes on a string.

I made colored ice cubes (one drop of food coloring per cube with some left clear) with a thick piece of yarn running through them.

Once they were frozen, Tate had an ice cube train to play with in the pool.

Since the pool water is as warm as a bath, the ice cubes melted quickly but Tate had fun pulling them around with the string and watching the colors swirl in the pool water.

So simple but it brought lots of fun sensory play for an almost-one-year-old.
