I love to celebrate the holiday season by being deliberate about spending time with people. Tonight we had friends for dinner … a simple dinner of soup and chili, corn muffins and biscuits, followed by Sweet Snow (vanilla ice cream) and some festive toppings: reindeer droppings (mini chocolate chips), ornaments (M&M’s), Rudolph noses (cherries), icicles (coconut), mudslide (chocolate sauce), and blizzard (whip cream). The table was set with fun Santa napkin holders (the red napkin completes the hat) made by my Mom years ago.
The doorbell rang during dinner. And who should appear? Santa and his friendly Elf! The kids were surprised and calmly excited.
Luke had no fear, sat comfortably in Santa’s lap, and told him he wants a skateboard. Lila said, “I’m scared of Santa” and then, from across the room, blurted, “I want a Barbie!”.
Lila lost some of her fear when she realized the Elf was handing out candy canes.
I wonder what the little ones will dream about tonight.

Oh how fun! Was that planned? Who was Santa? Or is it a secret?
