With the 4th of July only a couple of weeks away, I have red, white, and blue on my mind. Flag waffles would be a fun start to the 4th, wouldn’t they? My kids love having themed food on holidays and flag waffles are a hearty way to start the fun!
I made regular waffle batter {from a mix, no less} then colored the waffle batter with some red food coloring {you could definitely be a little more heavy-handed but I kept it light for the kids since I don’t like them to have too much artificial coloring}. I cooked the waffles and added a few fun toppings: blueberry stars and whipped cream stripes.
Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, or coconut would all be great waffle toppings as well. You could set everything out in bowls and just let everyone decorate their own flags the way they want them. That would be a big hit with my kids!
They’re so simple that they’d be easy to serve to a crowd. And if time is really short, you could always use frozen waffles as well and just let the kids top them with the fun stuff.
