When I made over our master bedroom recently, I really needed something different above the bed. This colorful plank wall art was just the thing! Full of color, simple and easy, this wall art adds the perfect pop of color to our room and fills the space above the bed. Every time I walk in the room, the burst of color just makes me smile!
To make this plank wall art, I bought seven pre-cut planks, 1/4 inch thick, four inches wide, and four feet long.
My goal was to pull colors from this bold bedding …
… so I dove into my DecoArt stash and found seven different colors that all matched well with the bedding.
I used my cutting machine {affiliate link} to cut the words “sleep tight” from adhesive vinyl and applied it to one of the boards, being sure to adhere the edges of the vinyl well.
I painted the boards, one in each color. I painted over the vinyl then peeled the vinyl away while the paint was still wet.
When the paint had dried completely, I nailed the planks to the wall. I used my stud finder to find the studs over the bed and nailed directly into those. I used galvanized nails with heads because I wanted them to show on the planks.
I decided to separate the planks randomly rather than stacking them on top of each other and I also decided not to nail them all on straight. I started at the bottom and leveled it, nailed it to the wall, then worked up, angling the next one, leveling the one after that, and so on, until the planks were all attached.
The sleep tight message adds a quaint touch …
… and I love all the bright colors! The room is so bright and happy and it’s the perfect space to relax and unwind.
