Do you decorate your dinner table for the holidays? Setting a pretty table is a great way to make a holiday feel special and to create special moments for your family. And it doesn’t have to be difficult or even very fancy to feel special. I have 5 simple ways to create a holiday tablescape.
1. Cover the table with a punched paper runner.
Drape the table in a colored cloth {or even a piece of fabric} then cover it with a paper table runner. Kraft paper or a roll of white art paper will work perfectly. The wrong side of wrapping paper will even work in a pinch. Use a paper punch to punch holes or shapes along the border.
2. Scatter confetti on the table.
I have a fun collection of table confetti including puffed hearts, metal stars and snowflakes, and glass hearts. You can buy table scatter or confetti at many stores {Pier 1, Crate and Barrel, Target} or make your own with a paper punch. It’s the perfect way to add some dimension and texture to the table. And confetti always makes things feel more festive.
3. Use decorative plates to add a festive flair.
Themed paper plates are an easy way to add a festive touch to the table but you can also add decorative flair with colored chargers and layered plates. Check out thrift stores for cheap plates that can be used for lots of different occasions. White plates can always be dressed up, red plates will work for Christmas or Valentine’s Day, and floral plates can be used for a variety of holidays and occasions. Mixing and matching designs and patterns also looks fabulous.
4. Make cutlery special by adding washi tape stripes.
It’s obviously simple to add washi tape to disposable cutlery but you can also add colored tape to your everyday cutlery to brighten things up.
5. Use found objects to create a themed centerpiece.
Creating a centerpiece doesn’t have to be an intricate process and a centerpiece can be made from objects in your yard and home. Grab some branches off a tree, cut some fresh flowers, use potted herbs, or simply make a cluster of your favorite themed items: a grouping of metallics and clocks for a New Year’s dinner, candles of varying heights for a romantic dinner, or a log with inset candles for a rustic look.
It’s so easy to throw together a holiday tablescape and it truly makes the day more special.
