Aloe Peppermint Soothing Cubes

While I wish my kids never got sunburns or bee stings, they do {Luke had a double whammy week with both a sunburn and a bee sting} and I want to soothe their discomfort as quickly as I can.  I’ve seen lots of aloe ice cubes on pinterest but I decided to take it up a notch with aloe peppermint soothing cubes: ice cubes made from aloe gel that also have the cooling effect of peppermint oil.  They take less than two minutes to prepare and you can keep a tray ready in the freezer all summer long.  You never know when someone will need a little soothing and cooling!

To make aloe peppermint soothing cubes, you’ll need peppermint essential oil and aloe gel.  I like the sunburn relief gel because it contains an analgesic as well and really helps to take the sting out of bites and burns.

Pour aloe gel into an ice cube tray {I use a long, thin ice cube tray because the frozen sticks are easy for little hands to grasp} and then add three or four drops of peppermint oil to each spot.

Freeze completely and pop a stick or cube out when you’re ready to use them.

My kids love to rub the soothing cubes on hot skin or mosquito bites.  The cold from the ice and peppermint combine to cool and soothe the skin and the aloe leaves a moisturizer behind.  Just be sure to wash hands after … peppermint oil in the eyes doesn’t feel quite as soothing as it does on the skin!
