Homemade Microwave Popcorn

I’ve recently grown a bit disgusted by store-bought microwave popcorn. I feel as though a relatively healthy snack is covered with preservatives, fake flavors, and fake color. My kids love popcorn so I decided to find an alternative. After perusing the internet for ideas, we came up with our own variation on homemade microwave popcorn. It’s not only delicious but so economical!

Homemade Paper Bag Popcorn

1 paper bag
1/4 cup popcorn kernels
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt {for a saltier version, use 1 teaspoon salt}

In a bowl, stir together the popcorn kernels, olive oil, and salt. Pour into a paper bag, fold the top over two or three times, and place in the microwave. Cook for three to five minutes, listening for the popping to slow {stop cooking when there are five seconds between pops}.

Variation: for kettle corn, add 1 teaspoon sugar to the mixture before popping.

    Love this idea! I had resorted to the old fashioned stove top method after reading how bad the microwave stuff is for you. This would not entail dirtying as many dishes!

    I just had to tell you, when I first opened this post, I thought it was titled “Pooping”. I thought maybe you were going to tell people to eat popcorn when they’re constipated. (Believe me, that’s a valid solution.)
