I was at Canton Trade Days recently and came across a huge stash of old distressed metal ceiling tiles that were just begging to be repurposed. I bought one and turned it into an upcycled vintage metal ceiling tile clock! It’s super unique and a really fun way to add a vintage touch to a home.
Vintage ceiling tiles are often very easy to find. I’ve been to junk sales that have tables full of them and they’re generally really affordable. I bought this vintage ceiling tile for only a dollar! I loved the rectangular shape and knew it would make a really unique and fun clock.
To make this tile clock, I bought a simple clock kit. These kits come in many different styles with different arms and a variety of colors and metallics.
I measured the tile to find the middle, both vertically and horizontally, and drilled a hole that was big enough to fit the shaft of the clock kit. I drilled a small hole first then drilled a bigger hole. If you start with a bigger hole, you may tear or bend the metal.
Put the clock pieces together according to the instructions on the package. There’s generally a diagram and it’s super simple with just a few pieces to assemble.
Add a battery and that’s all there is to it! I love that a piece of a building with so much history can become a practical accessory in my house. It’s definitely one of the reasons I love repurposing and upcycling.

I think that is too cool, and even better since you made it. Once again you have impressed me.

I love it too, but I would never be able to trust the time it tells. I need tick marks to establish trust.

I remember when we bought those! Of course, mine is still sitting in a cabinet, with the clock kit, unmade. Poor pretty tin.
Love yours!

What is not to love! It is junky perfection. My hubby would say the same thing though.
